Metropolitan Open: Georgiou wins by three from Schrieder

Andrew Georgiou shot rounds of 5-under 65 and 6-under 64, beating Nicholas Schrieder by three at the Metropolitan Open.

The pair shared the lead after the morning round before Georgiou put together an afternoon round which featured seven birdies, including three in a row from the 8th. He dropped just one shot and posted matching nine-hole scores of 3-under 32.

Schrieder gave a great account of himself in the afternoon as he constructed a blemish-free round which saw him pick up birdies at the 1st, 4th and 13th holes. 

Cole Cruickshank finished alone in 3rd a further shot adrift after rounds of 68 and 65.

DP World Tour: Puig picks up maiden title

David Puig claimed a maiden DP World Tour title with a 1-stroke victory over Wenyi Ding in the Australian PGA Championship.

Puig began the final round in a share of the lead with Ricardo Gouveia and Anthony Quayle.

Both Gouveia ((72) and Quayle (73) battled in over par rounds which saw them tumble out of contention.

 

In stark contrast, Puig compiled a bogey-free round of 5-under 66 which featured four front-nine birdies highlighted by three in a row from the 2nd.

One final red number at the 13th before five closing pars confirmed the Spaniard’s victory.

Sunshine Tour: Germishuys wins PGA Championship

A final round 3-under 69 saw Deon Germishuys etch his name onto the South African PGA Championship trophy with a one-shot win over Sam Simpson and Hennie Du Plessis.

Germishuys started the day two adrift of Luke Jerling but played an assured final round as he offset two bogeys with five birdies in a round of 3-under 69.

Jerling’s title challenge unravelled on the final day as he managed just one birdie in a round of 78 which relegated him to a share of 12th.

Like Germishuys, runners-up Simpson and Du Plessis both closed their campaigns with rounds of 69. 

Fun Facts & Scary Stats

  1. David Puig became the first Spaniard to win the Australian PGA Championship since 1981.
  2. During the Australian PGA Championship, should a player achieve an ace at a particular hole, fans at that hole share a AUD $1 million pot. This is yet to be won in the first two years of the initiative.
  3. Keegan Bradley earned victory in the 2025 Skins Game over Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Xander Schauffele – claiming $2.1 million in the process.
