DP World Tour: Aberg wins maiden DP World Tour title

Sweden’s Ludwig Aberg has long been touted as a player to watch in the years to come. Having secured his PGA Tour card after topping the PGA Tour University standings earlier in 2023, the former Texas Tech player has wasted no time in proving he belongs on golf’s bigger stages.

Trailing Matt Fitzpatrick by two with one round to go, Aberg enjoyed a sublime finish to his Sunday as he birdied four of his final five holes to shoot a six-under 64. Meanwhile Fitzpatrick leaked oil which put paid to his chances of getting over the line: After birdies at the 13th and 14th, the former US Open champion dropped three shots in his last four holes and ultimately finished in a tie for 3rd, three shots adrift of Aberg.

Sunshine Tour: Pepler wins maiden title

Much of the talk over the first 36 holes of the Sunshine Tour’s Gary & Vivienne Player was the superb play of Tour rookie Kyle De Beer who began with a high-quality eight-under round before following it up with a six-under round the next day for a two-shot lead. Ultimately though it was the steady play of fellow rookie Gerhard Pepler which won the day.

Pepler (-10) lurked just four adrift heading into the final round and benefitted from both his own great final round play and a stumble from De Beer. Pepler followed an outward-nine of 3-under 32 with an inward-half of 34 while De Beer carded five final round bogeys in a round of two-over 73 which enabled Pepler to secure his maiden Sunshine Tour title.

LPGA: Wannasaen earns first victory

LPGA Tour rookie Chanette Wannasaen claimed a maiden LPGA Tour title with a superb final round of nine-under 63 which propelled her to a four-stroke victory over Xiyu Lin in the Portland Classic.

Wannasaen went on a tear from the 3rd hole on Sunday as she sandwiched an eagle at the 5th between birdies at the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th. Three back-nine birdies helped maintain her momentum coming home as she put the seal on a memorable week. What makes this victory all the moreremarkable is the fact that she’d only made two cuts in 12 prior starts this season.

Challenge Tour: Rotluff triumphs at Indoor Challenge

Maximilian Rotluff surged to a three-shot triumph at the Indoor Golf Group Challenge as he fired a final round six-under 65. A six-birdie front nine helped him turn in 29 and not even a double-bogey 5 at his penultimate hole could derail his charge to victory. The win is Rotluff’s second of the season, lifting him to 9th on the Road To Mallorca standings and into a great position to secure his DP World Tour card for next season.
