Western Province got their title defence back on track with a 6.5-5.5 victory over Southern Cape on day 2 of the SA Premier Interprovincial at Silver Lakes Golf Club on Tuesday.
Daniel Copeman was once again the standout performer, first combining with foursomes partner Shaun Le Roux for a 3&2 win against Juan Barnard and Ivan Williams and then earning a crucial singles victory 5&4 over Ivan Verster in the afternoon.
Henru Walters and Andries Van der Vyver also delivered a full foursomes point for their side with a handy 3&1 win while Mitch Phigeland and Cole Cruickshank’s half with Verster and Dewan de Bruin meant WP took a 2.5-1.5 advantage into the afternoon singles.
Cruickshank notched an important 5&3 win against Ivan Williams while there were 2&1 victories for Le Roux and Phigeland respectively.
The other four singles games all went Southern Cape’s way but WP still did just enough to avenge their 2024 defeat.
Elsewhere in the A-section, Central Gauteng routed Eastern Province 11.5-.5 and enter their match against WP on Day 3 as the only unbeaten side.
Gauteng North, day 1 winners over WP, fell to a 7.5-4.5 defeat to North West.
