The Western Province SAGDB side signed off with 165 round three points and a SAGDB Challenge IPT total of 485 points which placed them 2nd in the A-Division alongside KZN, 15 points behind winners Central Gauteng come tournament-end at Royal Durban Golf Club on Tuesday.
WP were looking to build on the momentum gained over the opening two rounds which saw them notch 155 round one points before 165 over the second 18 holes.
14-year-old Codi Ruiters demonstrated that he isn’t just one for the future but one very much for the present too. After notching 31 points in round one and 32 in round 2, the Kuilsriver member was the standout performer for WP on the final day as he signed for a wonderful 2-under 70 which yielded 38 points. Ruiters’ impressive week earned him a share of 1st-place with Botshephehi Phakoe in the U/15 category courtesy of a 101-point tournament tally
Royal Cape’s Jude Samuels also put his hand up on the final day by carding a 73 for 35 points. Cole Williams and Luke-Daniel Pillay meanwhile had tougher times of it as they scored 26-points apiece via respective scores of 82.
Jaydon Galant and Conrick Lucas were among the later starters and both delivered crucial points for WP. Galant earned WP’s third-best score on the day as he collected 34 points through a 74 which secured a share of 4th-place in the U/19 division alongside Boland’s Tynan Vermeulen. Captain Lucas’ 32 points meanwhile was key to WP ultimately tying KZN for 2nd-place.
