Western Province produced some final day magic at Silver Lakes Golf Club and, with a little help from Southern Cape, successfully defended their SA Premier Interprovincial title.
Central Gauteng entered their final fixture knowing that a win against Southern Cape would see them crowned champions. All seemed on track after a 3-1 morning foursomes victory.
WP were lurking should Central slip, thumping second-placed North-West 3.5-05 highlighted by a 6&4 Mitch Phigeland and Chris Strydom in the bottom match.
Central slipped. Winning just 2.5 singles points meant a 5.5-6.5 defeat for Central, leaving the door ajar for Province.
Werner Theart’s men needed no second invitation. A 6&4 win by Dan Copeman rounded off a superb week’s performance as the Steenberg and Westlake player completed a 100% singles record.
Cole Cruickshank, Henru Walters and Andries van der Vyver all delivered 1-Up victories while Atlantic Beach’s Mitch Phigeland won 2&1.
Skipper Andrew Georgiou secured a half-point and although Shaun Le Roux and Chris Strydom lost their matches, WP continued their winning ways in South Africa’s Premier team event.
Eastern Province were relegated to the B-Section meanwhile and Boland earned promotion after amassing 9 Match-Points.
