PGA Tour: Gotterup powers to John Deere victory

Chris Gotterup shot a 9-under 62 before a late double-bogey by Ben Kholes ensured he emerged a one-shot winner over Max Homa at TPC Deere Run.
|
Lucas Glover and Lee Hodges ahared the 54-hole lead. With 16 players within five of the lead, anything could happen in the final round.
|
Gotterup was flawless. After a birdie at the 1st, he collected three in as many holes from the 3rd while another at the 7th ensured he made the turn in 5-under 30.
|
His tally continued ticking over on the back-nine with birdies at 10, 13 and 14. His final red number came at 17 in what was an impressive display.
|
Gotterup enjoyed a stroke of luck when Kohles made a calamitous end to his round. Playing in the final group and tied on 20-under with Gotterup, Kohles’ approach at 18 met a watery end and resulted in a double-bogey on a hole where birdie would’ve sealed the win.

Max Homa was alone in 2nd after a closing 64.

DP World Tour: Late fireworks help Hollick to maiden win

Michael Hollick birdied the penultimate hole of the BMW International Open before producing a sensational eagle at the 72nd hole to win by one shot over Hennie Du Plessis at Golf Club Munchen Eichenried.
|
The pair had been locked in an enthralling battle for most of the final round. Du Plessis, who trailed overnight co-leader Hollick by two through 54 holes, collected seven birdies over his first 15 holes on Sunday.
|
After playing his first 15 holes in 2-under par, Hollick found himself three adrift with two to play after an untimely bogey at 16.
|
Contrasting fortunes at the par-3 17th played a pivotal role in the eventual outcome. Playing ahead Du Plessis gave a shot back while a brilliant tee-shot by Hollick set up a birdie.
|
Du Plessis ultimately came to rue a birdie putt on the par-5 18 that didn't find the bottom of the cup.
|

This opened the door for Hollick who hit a nerveless 2nd shot from clinging rough towards a small target. He delivered before holing the putt of his life to secure a maiden DP World Tour title at the age of 39.

France's Julien Sale shot a 4-under 68 in the final round of the Le Vaudreuil Challenge to prevail by a shot over Hamish Brown at Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil.
|
South Africa's MJ Viljoen took a 2-shot lead into the final round but his title aspirations were thwarted by a 1-over 73 which left him in a share of 3rd-place.
|
Top spot instead went to home hope Sale who bounced back from a double-bogey 6 at the 1st with birdies at the 6th and 9th to restore paity.

His back-nine was sublime: An eagle-3 at the 12th preceded a birdie at the 15th and another at the par-5 18th which proved decisive.

US Senior Open: Harrington captures 3rd title

Padraig Harrington coasted to a 4-shot victory in the US Senior Open at Scioto Country Club after a closing round 4-under 66.
|
The Irishman improved each of the first three rounds, a 1-under 69 preceding rounds of 67 and 66 the nett effect of which still meant he trailed Stewart Cink by a shot.
|
Cink struggled on Sunday though, dropping three shots on the front-nine and collecting just one birdie. Eight pars followed on the back-nine before a birdie at 18 that was too little, too late.
|
|
Harrington made a swift start with birdies at his opening two holes before offsetting a drop at the 5th with a birdie at the 6th. Additional birdies at the 8th and 11th, combined with the fact that he didn't drop another shot coming home, ensured victory at a canter.
