SA Senior Amateur: Cooper wins at Kyalami CC
|
|
|
Pieter Cooper was crowned the South African Senior Amateur Champion after a closing 1-under 71 yielded a two-stroke win at Kaylami Country Club.
|
The Woodhill Country Club member hung around the top of the leaderboard throughout the event. A first round 2-under 70 meant he was a shot behind leader George Smith through 18 holes.
|
Despite a 4-over effort in round 2, he remained within three shots of 36-hole leader Eddie Antonie.
|
|
Cooper earned his crowning moment via a steady final round which featured three birdies and two bogeys, thus allowing him to eclipse a quartet of players including Smith and Antonie.

LPGA Tour: Kim earns home win in Korea

Sei Young Kim earned a four-stroke victory on home soil, winning the BMW Ladies Championship in Korea after a closing round of 5-under 67.
|
|
Kim began the event with a superb 10-under 62 in round 1 before backing it up with rounds of 66 and 69. After dropping a shot at her 3rd hole of the day, Kim played assured golf for the remainder of the round as she birdied holes 5-7 before another red number at the 9th. Two more birdies on the back-nine ensured she ended the event on 24-under par, eclipsing Nasa Hataoaka who birdied four of the final five holes in a 67 of her own.

DP World Tour: Fleetwood triumphs in India

Tommy Fleetwood bested a star-studded field at the DP World India Championship as he won by two shots over Keita Nakajima after closing with a 7-under 65.
|
Fleetwood trailed Nakajima by two entering the finakl day but made a productive start to his day with an outward-nine of 4-under 32 highlighted by birdies on holes 7-9. Leading by one at the turn, the Englishman kept his tally ticking with birdies at the 10th and 14th before a final red number at the par-3 17th.

Nakajima found two birdies on the homeward-9 but ultimately came up short. Shane Lowry (68), Alex Fitzpatrick (67) and Thriston Lawrence (65) shared 3rd-place on 18-under par.

Sunshine Tour: Purchase earns maiden win at Glendower

Warwick Purchase withstood Sunday challenges from Luis Carrera and Kyle Barker by carding a 2-under 70 to confirm a 2-stroke victory in the Fortess Invitational.
|
A third round 10-under 62 installed the Tour rookie as the leader by three with a round to play.
|
Barker made life difficult for Purchase with five birdies over his first 11 holes. His challenge unraveled with three consecutive bogeys from the 12th though in an eventual round of 69.
|
Purchase meanwhile overcame a 7th hole double-bogey 6 by collecting birdies at 10 and 11. He offset a drop at 13 with a birdie-3 at the next before a birdie at the closing hole saw him home.
|
|
Carrera, who won his first two events of the season, collected an eagle, six birdies and dropped just one shot in a round which elevated him from T-5 to T-2 by day's end.

Sebastian Garcia parred the extra hole to win the Hangzhou Open over Julian Perico.
|
Garcia, Perico and Max Steinlechner ended regulation tied on 17-under par. Garcia shot a closing 5-under 67, Perico a 70 and Steinlechner 69.
|
Ironically, it was the second time in as many weeks that Steinlechner had finished 72 holes on 17-under par and in a playoff. A bogey at the first playoff hole though meant he finished as he had the week before, as runner-up.
|
|
Garcia and Perico exchanged pars to extend the playoff before Garcia's par-4 on the 2nd extra line saw him pip Perico to the title.

PGA Tour Champions: Leonard soars to Dominion Energy win

Justin Leonard eagled the final hole of the Dominion Energy Classic to narrowly beat overnight leader Ernie Els by a shot.
|
Els had an up-and-down final round, carding three birdies and as many bogeys through the first 17 holes.
|
Despite his mixed fortune, he had a putt at the last to tie Leonard who birdied the 16th before his final hole birdie helped him to a 4-under 68.
|
|
Unfortunately for Els, his effort slid over the right edge, confirming Leonard's second victory of his PGA Tour Champions career.
