Brennan got better through each of the first three rounds on the par-71 layout, following a first round 67 with a 65 and then a 64.

A two-shot 54-hole lead became five through 63 holes after five birdies on the outward-nine on Sunday.

He may have played his final 9 in level-par but did more than enough to secure a comfortable victory over Rico Hoey who closed with a 67.

Junghwan Lee's 7-under 65 in the final round of the Genesis Championship saw him turn a four-stroke deficit into a three-shot triumph.

Lee began the last day on 4-under, behind co-leaders Nacho Elvira and Mikael Lindberg. Elvira stalled with a level-par Sunday while Lindberg slipped to a 2-over 74.
|

After a 2nd-hole bogey, Lee ignited his challenge with five birdies in a row from the 3rd before three further birdies at the 10th, 14th and 18th sealed the deal.

The event uses a modified stableford system awarding 8 points for an albatross, 5 for an Eagle, 2 for a birdie, 0 for a Par and -3 for a Double-Bogey or worse.

Through 36 holes, Du Plessis found himself on 23 points and six adrift of Tyrone Ryan's lead.

An 18-point third round catapulted him into a 10-point advantage over Ryan before a closing three-under 69 yielded 8 points and a comfortable victory.
