PGA Tour: Scheffler wins Tour Championship, FedExCup

Scottie Scheffler won the Tour Championship and the FedExCup in the process by three shots at East Lake Golf Club.
|
Scheffler kickstarted his bid for a second FedExCup title with a 5-under 65 before a useful second round 67 but he still found himself two adrift of Viktor Hovland and Ryan Gerard.
|
Hovland had his nose in front by a shot heading into Sunday after a Saturday 65 but Scheffler continued to lurk, signing for a 66 to lie three behind.
|
On Sunday the World no.1 did what he so often does, runs away with proceedings. Two birdies in his first four holes preceded a bounce-back birdie at the 8th after a drop at the previous hole. With Hovland turning in even-par, the stage was set for a thrilling end to the season.
|
Hovland will rue the absence of birdies and the presence of two bogeys on his inward-nine.
|
Scheffler managed three birdies and dropped just one shot coming in.
|
|
And that made all the difference.

LPGA Tour: Yin wins FM Championship

Ruoning Yin won an action-packed FM Championship by two shots at TPC Boston with a final round 2-under 70.
|
A chip in birdie at the 18th hole in round 3 lifted Yin to a one-shot lead over Sei Young Kim and Hyo Joo Kim. The former took the lead with a birdie at the 11th. A disastrous double-bogey at the next, coupled with a birdie from Yin meant it was Hyo Joo and Yin who shared the lead.

Sei Young continued to leak oil with bogeys at the 12th and 13th which scuppered her chances. Hyo Joo meanwhile made an untimely drop at the 16th before Yin slammed the door shut with a birdie at the 18th.

DP World Tour: Sunday blitz ends in victory for Dean

England's Joe Dean stormed to victory in the British Masters, posting a 9-under 63 and a tournament total 14-under which ultimately stood the test of time in the British Masters at The Belfry.
|
Inclement weather disrupted the first two days which meant that part of the third round needed to be finished on Sunday morning.
|
When round 3 finished up, New Zealand's Daniel Hillier led on 12-under par thanks to rounds of 69-66-69. A distant seven shots adrift sat Dean.
|
The ascent up the leaderboard began with a birdie at the 2nd. Continued with a birdie at 3 before Dean made it three in a row with another birdie-3. A par at 5 halted the sequence before a birdie at 6 helped the 32-year-old to a 4-under front-nine score.
|
The putts kept dropping on the inward-half. Birdies at the 10th, 13th and 14th.
|
Hillier had a very different scoring day, making just two birdies - at 10 and 17 while his bid for a second DP World Tour title was further undermined by a bogey at the 4th and a double-bogey two holes later.
|
Given Dean's spectacular display, it was fitting that he finished with birdies at his last two holes, winning his maiden title in his 70th start.

A quartet of players including Hillier shared 2nd-place on 11-under par.

Sunshine Tour: Ageless Hugo wins at Wild Coast

Jean Hugo continued to defy father time, winning the Sunbet Challenge at Wild Cost Sun Country Club by a single shot after a closing 5-under 65.
|
Nihil Rama, who was in search of a maiden Tour title, led through 36 holes and shared the 36-hole lead with James Mack and Keagan Thomas on 5-under par.
|
Mack battled to a 2-over par final round while Thomas posted a 69.
|
Rama started brightly with three front-nine birdies which helped him turn in 3-under 32.
|
Matching that 3-under 32 was Hugo though he still found himself two shots adrift.
|
The script flipped on the back-nine. Hugo responded to a drop at the 11th with three birdies in a row from the 12th.
|
Rama also birdied the 12th then slowly leaked oil. Three untimely bogeys in a row from 13 brought damage to his challenge that a birdie at 16 did little to repair.
|
After Hugo parred his final four holes and set the clubhouse target at 8-under, Rama needed a birdie at one of his final two holes.
|
|
A birdie which didn't arrive and instead landed Hugo a 22nd Sunshine Tour crown.

HotelPlanner Tour: Home win for Sweden's Blomstrand

Weeks removed from his win at the Scottish Challenge, Sweden's Christofer Blomstrand earned a two-shot win on home soil when he captured the Dormy Open title at Kristianstad Golf Club.
|
Blomstrand made a bright start to the event by sandwiching 2-under 68s either side of a 66 to share the 54-hole lead with compatriot David Lundgren.
|
After beginning the final round with seven straight pars, Blomstrand's round came to life with an eagle-3 at the 8th. Lundgren meanwhile collected a birdie, bogey and seven pars on his opening-nine.
|
Lundgren was to make only one more birdie, at the 10th, before being stuck on the par train for the remaining holes.
|
Blomstrand bounced back from a bogey at the 12th with a birdie three holes later. This proved critical with Wilco Nienaber applying pressure with three birdies in his first 16 holes to pull within a shot.
|
|
Blomstrand kept his composure with a birdie at the par-4 17th and when Nienaber was unable to make a birdie there, or at the par-5 18th, the Swede's victory was confirmed.

PGA Tour Champions: Alker wins Ally challenge

Steven Alker fired a 4-under 68 in the final round of the Ally Challenge and benefitted from a Sunday stumble by Michael Block as he won by three shots at Warwick Hills Golf Club.
|
Block had led through 36 holes having opened with stunning rounds of 6-under 66 and 65. His quest for a maiden title faltered though as he made five bogeys against three birdies in a 2-over 74 to tie for 3rd.
|
Alker played superbly. Four birdies in a row from the 12th was the highlight of a round which featured six red numbers in all and, despite a bogey at 18, ended in a comfortable win over runner-up Retief Goosen.
|

Goosen surged up the leaderboard with a 64 that featured nine birdies and just one dropped shot.

King David Mowbray Open: Loubser cruises to six-shot triumph
|
|
|
Westlake's Pietie Loubser shot two rounds of 3-under 69 on a blustery Sunday at King David Mowbray to win by six shots from Cole Cruickshank.
|
Loubser began the day in fine fashion with three front-nine birdies to combat a drop at the par-4 5th. He dropped just one shot on the back-nine at the 12th but bounced back with red numbers at the par-5 14th and potentially treacherous par-4 18th.
|
It was more of the same in the afternoon - three front-nine birdies and a blemish-free back nine helping Loubser on his way to an emphatic win. He mixed two birdies with two bogeys on the inward-half before three closing pars saw him match his morning effort.
|
Runner-up Cruickshank overcame a rocky start where he was 4-over through 7. The Somerset West Open champion reeled off three birdies in a row from the 9th in an eventual 71 further aided by birdies at the 17th and 18th holes.
|

A colourful afternoon ensued. A double-bogey and four drops were offset by an eagle-3 at the 14th and birdies at the 6th, 10th and 16th in a 1-over 73.
