PGA Tour: Lucky no.3 for Koivun at 3M Open

Jackson Koivun eased to a three-shot victory in the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities as his maiden PGA Tour title came in just his third start as a professional.

Koivun made a fine start to the week with a 7-under 64 followed by a 68. Round three made the real difference, though:

A 10-under 61 which consisted of two eagles and six birdies. What's more is the American finished his round birdie-birdie-eagle.
|
Three ahead heading into Sunday, the 21-year-old didn't flinch in the final round. Not even as Scottie Scheffler charged with a closing 8-under 63 to post 22-under.
|
Koivun birdied three of his first five holes and two on the back-nine. When he drove the par-4 16th and two-putted for birdie, the event was as good as won.
|

Two closing pars confirmed it and the fact that Koivun indeed has the game for the highest-level.

LPGA Tour: Shin snaps decade-long title-drought

|
Jenny Shin snapped a decade-long LPGA title drought, winning the Scottish Open by three despite a 3-over 75 in the final round at Dundonald Links.
|
Shin flew out of the starting stalls with rounds of 66 and 67, building a 5-shot lead through 36 holes. Her advantage remained intact after a Saturday 71 in trying conditions as she moved ever closer to a first title since 2016.

Sunday was a tough day for scoring. After five opening pars, Shin dropped three shots in a row. She rebounded with birdies at 10 and 12 and although these were cancelled out by bogeys at 16 and 18, the South Korean emerged victorious over compatriot A Lim Kim who carded a 68 on Sunday.

LIV Golf Tour: Herbert laps field at LIV UK

|
Fresh off a T-6 finish at The Open Championship, Lucas Herbert won LIV Golf UK by a whopping six shots at JCB Golf & Country Club.
|
The Australian made a rollicking start to the week with an 11-under 61 before backing it up with rounds of 66 and 69.
|
Three shots ahead of Bryson DeChambeau, Herbert ended the week as he began it, with a scoring masterclass. Birdies at his opening two holes preceded a run of three birdies in four holes from the 6th.
|
|
The back-nine was productive as he carded four birdies in a row from the 11th. One final birdie at the 18th put the seal on what was a commanding win in the end as Tyrrell Hatton occupied a distant 2nd-place after a 63 while DeChambeau closed with a 68.

Korn Ferry Tour: Morrison stands tall at Evans Scholars Invitational

At 6ft 9in, Tommy Morrison towers over most of his playing partners. At the Evans Scholars Invitational, he rose head and shoulders above the field with a Sunday 8-under 63 which produced a three-shot win at The Glen Club.
|
Morrison held a slender one-shot advantage over Dylan Menante beginning the final round after opening with rounds of 65, 63 and 64.
|
He made a fast start to his Sunday with birdies at each of the first five holes. Five pars followed before he snapped the sequence with a birdie-2 at the 11th.
|
|
At the par-4 15th, Morrison smoked his tee-shot 348 yards to within 14-feet of the hole. He rolled the putt in and the resultant tournament total of 29-under proved enough to eclipse Menante who finished three behind despite shooting 65.

HotelPlanner Tour: Albers shoots Sunday 65, wins Raiffeisenbank Challenge by three

Anton Albers burst out of a three-way tie for the lead by firing a 6-under 65 on Sunday to win the Raiffeisenbank Challenge by three shots at Kaskada Golf Resort in the Czech Republic.
|
Albers shared the 54-hole lead with Hamish Brown and Callum Tarren after the trio navigated the first three rounds in 14-under par.
|
Brown imploded, however with a 4-over 75 to finish T-15 while Tarren's 2-under effort prevented him from keeping pace with Germany's Albers.
|
The 27-year-old birdied the par-5 opening hole before adding red numbers at the 5th, 8th and 9th. A bogey at the 12th was a minor setback to which Albers responded with birdies at the 13th, 15th and 16th.
|
|
Two pars to close out his round ensured a comfortable victory over Tatsunari Shogenji (67) and Alex Goff who closed with a 65.

Senior Open Championship: Kelly comes up clutch at Gleneagles

Jerry Kelly birdied the 72nd hole of the Senior Open Championship to claim a two-stroke win at Gleneagles.
|
Australia's Cameron Percy had led by three after 36 holes having opened with a 7-under 63 and 2-under 68. Kelly joined him atop the leaderboard on Saturday after the American posted a 68 to Percy's 71.
|
Percy made a slow start to his Sunday with bogeys at the 3rd and 6th in an outward-nine of 2-over 36. Kelly by contrast went out in 32.
|
All the while, Matt Gogel charged up the leaderboard. A 4-under 30 was followed by birdies at the 10th and 12th before he set the clubhouse target at 8-under following a birdie at the last.
|
After a bogey at 11, Kelly consolidated his 9-under total with with six straight pars.
|
When he arrived at the 18th, the event was far from a foregone conclusion. South Africa's Darren Fichardt played a remarkable 3rd-shot from a greenside bunker that set up a birdie at 18 and helped him join Gogel on 8-under.
|
With Percy on the 8-under mark too playing the last, a misstep by Kelly could've opened the door for a 4-way playoff.
|
Faced with a tricky bunker shot for his 3rd, Kelly played a wonderful shot to set up a birdie look.
|
But first, Percy had a birdie putt to tie him and apply significant pressure.
|
|
In so doing, he claimed the 3rd Major title of his PGA Tour Champions career.

Western Province Closed Championship: Thompson wins after late birdie-blitz
|
|
|
Nicholas Thompson scorched King David Mowbray's back-nine, shooting a 6-under 30 in an afternoon 7-under 65 which yielded a two-stroke victory in the Western Province Closed Championship.
|
Thompson started slowly with a morning 2-over 74, trailing 18-hole leaders Bjorn Nord and Wayne Melle by four shots.
|
Starting on the 1st in round 2, the Westlake member birdied the 3rd and 8th to offset a drop at the par-5 6th.
|
|
The birdies flew from all directions on the back-nine. A birdie every other hole from the 10th to the 14th was how it began. Birdies at the par-3 16th, the potentially perilous 17th and 18th was how it finished, adding up to a tournament total of 5-under 139 and victory over Steenberg's Boston Franks who carded rounds of 71 and 70.
